Heating Oil to Propane Conversion in Warrenton, Amissville & Surrounding Areas
Paying $6 a gallon for heating oil? You’re not alone, and you may not have to keep paying it.
Heating oil prices are tied to diesel and global refining, which keeps them high and hard to predict. Propane is produced here in the U.S. in large amounts, which has kept it far cheaper per gallon. Griffith Plumbing, Heating and Cooling & Electrical, LLC helps homeowners across Fauquier, Culpeper and Rappahannock counties switch from oil to propane, and we’ll show you the real numbers before you decide.

Heating Oil Costs Got You Down?
You’re not imagining it. Heating oil comes from the same part of crude oil as diesel fuel. When refineries go offline, demand overseas climbs or inventories run low, prices jump, and homeowners on oil feel it with every delivery.
Propane is different. The U.S. produces far more propane than it uses, much of it from natural gas production, so its price depends mostly on supply here at home.
Virginia averages for the week of October 19, 2026 (U.S. Energy Information Administration):
- Heating oil: $6.00 per gallon
- Propane: $3.76 per gallon
For this winter, the EIA expects homes heating with oil to spend about 21% more than last winter, while propane homes are expected to spend about 3% less.
Propane holds less heat per gallon than oil, so your real savings depend on your system. That’s why we start with a free assessment.
Electricity Prices Frustrating You?
Between rising oil prices and climbing electric rates, it can feel like your energy bills are out of your hands. They don’t have to be. You can take control, and for many homes out here, propane is the way to do it.
Why propane?
Made in America
The U.S. produces far more propane than it uses, so its price isn’t tied to global diesel markets.
Less heat wasted
Modern propane boilers and furnaces run up to 95% to 96% efficient.
Lighten your electric bill
Run your water heater, dryer, range and more on propane instead of electricity.
Clean and simple
No soot, no oil smell, and no oil tank in the basement.
Ready for outages
Propane can fuel a standby generator to keep your heat and well pump running.
Your fuel, your terms
Own your tank and shop around, or lock in a price with a pre-buy plan.

Signs You’re Overpaying for Heat
An old oil system can waste a surprising amount of every gallon you buy.
Oil bills over $3,000 a winter
Boiler or furnace 20+ years old
Frequent or emergency oil deliveries
Soot, smoke or oil odors
Uneven heat or cold rooms
Repairs every heating season
Older oil systems often run at 65% to 75% efficiency, which means a quarter or more of every gallon goes up the chimney. A new high-efficiency system can cut that waste dramatically.

Oil to Propane Conversion FAQs
Is propane cheaper than heating oil?
Per gallon, yes, by a wide margin right now. In Virginia, heating oil averaged about $6.00 a gallon and propane about $3.76 the week of October 19, 2026, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. A gallon of propane holds about two-thirds the heat of a gallon of oil, so your real savings depend on how efficient your old and new equipment are. Our calculator and free assessment factor that in.
How much can I save by converting from oil to propane?
It depends on how much oil you use, how old your system is, and what you replace it with. Homes with older boilers that use 700 gallons or more a year can often save $1,000 or more a year with a new high-efficiency propane system. A burner-only conversion saves less, but costs less upfront.
Can I convert my oil boiler to propane?
Often, yes. If the boiler is in good condition, we can install a propane burner on it. If it is old or inefficient, replacing it with a condensing propane boiler usually saves much more over time.
What happens to my old oil tank?
When you switch, the old oil tank needs to be emptied and either removed or properly abandoned. We will explain your options during the assessment.
Do I need a propane tank?
Yes. Propane is stored in a tank on your property, either leased from a propane supplier or owned. Owning your tank lets you shop around for the best propane price.
Can other appliances run on the same propane tank?
Yes. The same propane tank that heats your home can also run a tankless water heater, clothes dryer, range and oven, outdoor grill, gas fireplace and even a standby generator. Our licensed plumbers run the gas lines and make the connections, so everything is installed safely and to code.
Is the heating assessment really free?
Yes. We look at your system and your fuel use, then give you a written quote and savings estimate with no obligation.
