Water Where It Shouldn’t Be? Do This First
Every minute counts when water is spreading. Before you do anything else:
- Shut off the main water valve to stop the flow (see how below).
- Turn off the water heater if the leak is near it or you’ve shut off the main: switch off its breaker, or set a gas or propane unit to “pilot.”
- Stay away from water near outlets, cords or the electrical panel. Only turn off a breaker if you can reach the panel while standing somewhere dry.
- Call us at (540) 717-0784. We’ll get a plumber headed your way.
What Counts as a Plumbing Emergency?
Call us right away for:
Burst or frozen pipes
A leak you can’t stop
Sewage backing up into drains
A leaking or failed water heater
No water from your well
An overflowing toilet that won’t stop
Not sure if it can wait until morning? Call us. We’ll help you decide, and tell you how to keep the damage down in the meantime.
How to Shut Off Your Main Water Valve
Find your main valve now, before you need it, and make sure everyone in the house knows where it is.
- Homes on a well: turn off the breaker for the well pump, then close the valve on the line just past the pressure tank.
- Homes on public water: the main valve is usually where the water line comes into the house, in the basement, crawlspace or utility room, often near the water meter.
- Round handle: turn it clockwise until it stops.
- Lever handle: turn it a quarter turn so it sits across the pipe.
Valve stuck or won’t close all the way? Don’t force it. Call us, and we can replace it with one that works when you need it.
Frozen Pipes: What to Do
Frozen and burst pipes are our most common winter emergency. If a faucet only trickles on a cold morning:
1. Open the faucet
Moving water helps a frozen pipe thaw, and it relieves pressure.
2. Find the frozen spot
Look for frost on the pipe, usually along an outside wall, in a crawlspace or in the garage.
3. Warm it gently
Use a hair dryer, a heating pad or warm towels.
4. Never use an open flame
Torches and propane heaters can start a fire or crack the pipe.
5. Watch for leaks
A pipe that split while frozen often starts leaking as it thaws.
6. Call us if you can’t find it
We will locate the frozen section and repair any damage.
To prevent it next time, keep the heat on, open sink cabinets on outside walls, let faucets drip on the coldest nights, and insulate pipes in crawlspaces and garages. If your heat went out too, see our 24/7 emergency HVAC repair.
Burst Pipe & Leak Repair
We stop the leak, repair or replace the damaged pipe, and check the rest of the line, whether it’s copper, PEX, CPVC or galvanized.
Water Heater Emergencies
A tank leaking from the bottom, or no hot water in the middle of winter? We repair or replace it fast, tank or tankless.
Sewer & Drain Backups
Sewage coming up in a tub or floor drain usually means a blocked main line. We clear it and find out why it happened, so it doesn’t happen again.
No Water From the Well
A failed well pump or pressure tank stops the whole house. Our plumbers and electricians fix pumps, switches and wiring.

Emergency Plumbing FAQs
Do you offer 24/7 plumbing?
Yes. We answer 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including nights, weekends and holidays.
What counts as a plumbing emergency?
Burst or frozen pipes, a leak you cannot stop, sewage backing up, a leaking water heater, no water from your well, or any overflow that is damaging your home. If you are not sure, call and we will help you decide.
How do I shut off my main water valve?
On a well, turn off the well pump breaker and close the valve just past the pressure tank. On public water, close the main valve where the water line enters the house. Turn a round handle clockwise until it stops, or turn a lever a quarter turn.
Is there an extra charge for after-hours calls?
Emergency calls outside regular hours can include an after-hours charge. We will tell you about any charges on the phone, before we send a plumber.
What should I do while I wait for the plumber?
Keep the water shut off, move valuables away from the water, mop up what you safely can, and take photos for your insurance company.
Can you fix a burst pipe the same day?
In most cases, yes. We stop the leak and repair the pipe on the first visit. Pipes inside finished walls or ceilings may need the drywall opened to reach them.
I have no water. Is that a plumbing emergency?
Yes, especially on a well. Check the well pump breaker and the pressure tank gauge, then call us at (540) 717-0784.
